Stephanie Waters

Social Connections Trainer

What does a normal day entail?

My day job is as a primary school teacher so no two days are the same! I am not a morning person so usually it’s a rush to get to school by 8am and then the day revolves around whatever exciting things are unfolding for my Year 6 class. After school and meetings I like to fit in a walk, cook something tasty for dinner and relax with my partner watching TV.

What do you love most about your job?

I love working with people, forming connections with them and helping them have that moment of independence and joy when they master new skills. Whether it’s my role at Pines working within the All Abilities programs or my work as a school teacher, I also love the strong sense of community.

What do you love doing outside of work?

I am a nature lover and love all things hiking, camping and adventuring. In my spare time I am a volunteer hike leader with an outdoor group to support women exploring the outdoors. I also love spending time with family and friends, inventing new recipes and relaxing with my bunny Luna.

What were you going to be when you grew up?

Once upon a time I wanted to be an Olympic equestrian, a little bit difficult for a kid who never took horse riding lessons!

What is a totally different job that you would like to try?

The dream might be some sort of travel influencer so I can get paid to travel and live all over the world.

What have you studied?

Prior to teaching I studied and worked in childcare. During my uni degree I also studied a French elective sequence and I attended evening classes for a long time before lockdowns.
